Kırıkkale University was founded on 3 July 1992 through the resolution of foundations to consist of Faculty of Science and Literature, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Sciences and Institute of Medical Sciences and Kırıkkale Vocational School which is the only existing department that had been taken over from Ankara University. Kırıkkale University commenced the 1993-1994 academic year following its foundation with 6 departments in 3 faculties, 10 programs in its vocational school and 8 disciplines in 2 institutes. Kırıkkale University opened another vocational school within its organization at the beginning of the 1994-1995 academic year with three programs and on 3 January 1995 , Faculties of Medicine, Law and Education and further on 12 August 1995 School of Physical Education and Sports was added into the organization of the university. Among these faculties, Faculties of Law and Education first admitted students in the 1998-1999 academic years. School of Physical Education and Sports started education in the academic year of 1999-2000. Süleyman Demirel Research and Application Hospital came into service in 2001. In addition, with the foundation of the Faculty of Dentistry approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on 24.06.2002, students will be enrolled in the academic year of 2004-2005. As of today, education in Kırıkkale University is carried on in 8 Faculties, 1 School of Higher Education, 2 Vocational Schools and 5 Research and Application Centers. The university can be considered as a suburb to Ankara in the contemplation of proximity to the city and the travel access. Kırıkkale University has a location which is far away from the hustle bustle of the city and yet, it is a place where one can easily reach the scientific, cultural and social opportunities of the urban life. That is the main reason for the rapid development of the university. Our university ranks in the first lines among the universities in our country in terms of the number of the students per lecturer. Being one of the best universities in terms of the international publications, our university is ahead of its peers. Being a rapidly growing State University , Kırıkkale University has the capability to provide the highest contribution to our higher education although it has a limited support. Being established on the banks of Kızılırmak River , Kırıkkale University is improving its peaceful scientific environment with its modern scientific knowledge and equipment by using its potential and it has a great contribution to our country by educating satisfactorily well-trained people.
